Trans- Seasonal Trends
1/9 Pleats please!

Irrespective of scorching temperatures coming our way, a couple of trends from the previous season continue to exert their influence even during Summer/Spring 2016. No longer just winter wear, designers have re-worked on them. So don’t turn your back on these, just yet!

Pretty pleats are here to stay. Known as the origami of the sewing world they are ruling the runways. Last year, we saw Deepika Padukone, who looked glamorous, sporting them in a Fendi Ensemble. This season, it is time to get inspired by a floor length skirt from designer Dev R Nil’s collection.

Here’s our suggestion, have fun with pleats in vibrant hues, try mastering a lady-like look with prints and lastly team them up with fitted tops.

2/9 Fun Fringe

One of the biggest trends of summer 2016, feminine fringes have been spotted almost everywhere. Take a look at an ensemble from designer Vaishali’s label which incorporated fine fringes that stole the show. In fact, from designer Nikasha’s Winter Festive 2015 collection, Pernia Qureshi wore an elegant sharara suit with this very adornment.

So if you are intending to sport slashed edges then think boho and opt for shredded hemlines on skirts, dresses, jackets and on accessories too.

3/9 The Cape Craze

Yes! Our most-liked, effortless outerwear is not new. Last year, we saw Samantha Prabhu pick a cape gown creation by designer Babita Malkani wherein the styling was on point. And this season designer Prerika Jalan behind the label –“Eclat” has showcased an asymmetrical cape over a lehenga in her collection Jardin Redefined.

We suggest you catch up with this trend now and shop for mid-length and longer calf-length ones that can be teamed with a short, fitted dress and also go desi with them.

4/9 Bold Bomber Jackets

A key style this season, these garments with a modern edge tend to stand out. For the purpose of some winter layering, designers Armaan and Aiman had included an easy piece in their collection. And personally speaking, I loved it on Athiya Shetty. However for summer, designer Pallavi of ‘Not so Serious’ has created a jacket with vivid colors in her line.

So, we feel that you can work the ‘athleisure’ trend with jackets in silk, having unique embroidery & unique details.

5/9 Velvet Vibes

A rare sight during summer, this trend is undoubtedly not going anywhere. In winter, designers utilized velvet for dresses as seen on Maliaka Arora Khan in a Saint Laurent outfit. While in 2016, the House of Dior has designed short jackets with it.

Here is our take on this one - without looking dated you can try using this fabric in the form of subtle details on your outfits, for instance, on edges and on shoes too.

6/9 Plunging Necklines

If you are aiming to look enticing in a sexy outfit, then it’s time to turn up the heat with the not so demure - deep V necklines. For spring, the designer duo Shivan and Naresh showcased a provocative gown whereas last season we came across Shilpa Shetty wearing a Monisha Jaisingh ensemble with this neckline.

Try out such necklines in tasteful dresses, tops or even jumpsuits and don’t forget pull it off with confidence.

7/9 Hints of Leather

As summer comes closer, we realize that leather is still going strong on the runways. Last year, we came across Tapasee Pannu looking pretty in a knee length forever new leather skirt. And this year it has been a part of designer Ragini Ahuja’s creation as seen on Alia Bhatt.

As a matter of fact, we think that you can definitely rock this trend in garments such as jackets, mini skirts and dresses too.

8/9 Summer Suede

It is having a major moment this time around. Embrace the easy elegance of the 70’s with suede in hues namely tan, blue and green. During the winters, Alia Bhatt had worn a shift dress in this fabric and looked great! And International label- Balmain has designed a sexy body con dress in suede for spring.

Besides accessories, we would suggest you to give suede a shot in shorts skirts, tops and over coats too.

9/9 Romantic Ruffles

Each one of us seems to be obsessed with delicate, playful and feminine ruffles that tend to create some drama. Natasha Poonawala sported this runway staple in a design by Balmain from last season and designers Gauri and Nainika have incorporated them in their Summer 2016 collection.  Very recently Maliaka Arora Khan wore a classy outfit from the same.

Our thoughts on them, well, we think you should look out for elegant garments with frilled as well as ruffled collars and cuffs, all-over cascading tiers and at the bottom edge of outfits.
