Summer Trend Spotting: Lakme Fashion Week 2017
Team TDL 21 Feb 2017 TRENDS

With the end of the Lakme Fashion Week 2017, which witnessed five days of the most happening fashion icons sporting their best foot forward along the ramps that saw the most creative and trendy designer wear, it’s time to jot down what we’ve learnt from this week for upcoming summers.

After five fashion frenzy days, we have tonnes of must haves on our list. Trends that will rule our summer attires and must yours as well are all jotted below.

1. Metal Muse

Use of metallic and shiny fabrics was seen sashaying down the ramp with bold attitudes.  Designers Amit Aggarwal and Ritu Kumar’s Label were a few collections in metallic moods that will surely get you party ready this season. Wear metallic in pleated skirts or slip dresses to look like a complete fashion diva and let them go gaga over your style.

Amit Aggarwal took metallic influence in separates and leggings for his collection.

             2. Sleeve Exaggerated

We saw plenty of drama in the sleeve department on the ramp this season. Whether it was short or long, sleeves were a character with a great story to tell. They were ruffled, exaggerated, twisted and slit for a more dramatic over-the-top look. Flaunt some creative sleeves this summer for your unique look.

The layered petal inspired sleeves on this outfit from Échampagneé by Pinakin give it that touch of drama.

Extra-long droopy sleeves with gathers at the bottom add some life into this outfit from QUO by Ishita Mangal.

Tassels added on the sleeves give a tribal chic look to this attire from Falguni and Shane Peacock.

          3. Summer Layering

Forget delayering for the summer heat. The more the layers, the trendier you look. Smart layering for summers is what we’ve learnt from the ramp this season. So learn how to pile on to look twice as cool from our designers at LFW.

Long sheer jackets like this one from Urvashi Kaur are the go-to trend for this summer.

EKA showed us how layering in garment pieces can also be pulled off with smart pairings.

Designer Swati Vijaivargie played with printed layers for her summer collection.

 4. Dust Me Not

Earthy dusty hues were seen a lot this LFW, from plenty of beige to dusty purples and pinks seemed to be every designer’s favourite palette this season. Going neutral in shades for both men and women was seen as a huge trend on the ramp. So go for colours with gender neutrality this summer season whether it’s street style or festive.

This dusty charcoal grey asymmetric outfit from SVA by Sonam and Paras Modi adds a whole lot of elegance to this festive look.

Anuj Bhutani’s natural earthy hues for both menswear and womenswear are also a big yes this summer season.

5. Sheer Act

Sheer outfits were witnessed in a lot of shows at LFW 2017. Designers played with textures and peek-a-boo constructions for playful silhouettes. Layering with sheer separates to change the look of a garment was seen on the runway as well. We loved the use of a sheer fabric for the blouse by designer Sailesh SInghania giving the sari a Victorian look. It is a brilliant addition to our ethnic sari.Falguni and Shane Peacock’s pink sheer jacket is a great way to add colour as well as layer to this outfit.

     6. Pick Pockets

For a chic smart summer look, add some pocket to it. No matter what silhouette or occasion, pockets add a huge punch of attitude. For that care-free stylish ensemble don’t forget to stitch a pocket in it. Whether it was a casual or couture look, we saw designers playing with pockets this season.

            7. Check my Stripes

Checks and striped outfits were a favourite among designers. We loved the direction play and colour influence displayed on the ramps with just stripes and checks. Add these basic essentials to your wardrobe for interesting summer attires. Mix, match and try some unique layering for that perfect summer ensemble. Designers created interesting designs by adding strips and checks, not only into western co-ords but their addition to ethnic saris were commendable.

Divya Sheth’s Yellow and red checked sari with a modern construction give the sari a whole new perspective. Metallic strip play in this sari from 431 - 88 by Shweta Kapur adds a futuristic element to this outfit.

  8. Co-ord Play

Summer co-ordinated looks are back. Skip the hassle of matching your separates and just go for co-ords this season. Prints and embellishments will make you stand out in the crowd. Smart co-ords are a great addition to your summer wardrobe.

Single printed crop top, jacket and pants by Swati Vijaivargie makes a subtle but fashionable statement.

As we bid adieu to yet another fashion week, get ready to welcome a whole new season filled with new trends in your wardrobe.
