Abrbandi
ABOUT COLLECTION

Abrbandi is a poetic Uzbek term meaning "to tie a cloud" is used to denote the vibrant "IKAT" weave popular in Central and East Asian handloom textile traditions.

Ikat was introduced and patronised in India by the erstwhile "Nizams" of Hyderabad, who propogated aspects of a Persianate society, imbibed from their Turco-Mongol Mughal overloads ; and this became central to the Hyderabadi identity.

The collection references strong sartorial elements of this culture, including the famous "khada-dupatta", popular with the Begums of Hyderabad to the "Kappulu sari", another popular sari-drape from the Telangana region.

Cut-out necklines, armband embroideries and voluminous silhouetes pay homage to the rich, vibrant and exquisitely-detailed ensembles of this era. These are interpeted in a modern avatar, in sync with the labels signature designs blending the vintage with the new age-perfectly capturing the imagination of young Indian women across the globe.
